As the title says this is a shootout between both of Fuji´s fixed lens cameras. The question is:
Can the X100 deliver an image quality that rivals that of the X100T?
Both share a very similar body design, both share the same 23mm f/2 lens. The main difference for this shootout is the sensor. The first X100 has an bayer filter whereas the X100T has Fujifilm 16MP X-Trans II sensor hidden inside the body.
I took some photographs of the same motive within seconds leaving both cameras at the same settings. First I will show you some comparing Jpeg´s out of the box which I just resized in Lightroom for web size. I used the following settings on both cameras in order for you two also see the different color pattern Fuji has applied. Decide for yourself which one you like better. Me personally? I love the colors coming out of the Fujifilm X100 a tad better. The blues and greens are just wonderful.
- Film Mode: Astia
- ISO 200
- DR 100
- WB Auto
- NR 0
- H-Tone +1
- S-Tone -1
- Color +1
Both camera setups are absolutely identical.
Let us start with some pictures. The first lot are the Jpeg´s OOC.
And now I´ll show you the same pictures from both cameras but this time I edited the raw files in Lightroom 6
What is the conclusion of this small and not at all scientific test of mine? Well both cameras are capable of producing some wonderful images. Even the old 12MP sensor stuck inside the first and now legendary X100 is still right up there.
I must admit though that the user interface and the button layout on the X100T is just so much better than that on the original X100 that I rather use the X100T. As you can imagine there are also load of other improvements built into the X100T such as a much better EVF, a better screen. Faster AF, and yes it really is faster even though the X100 has had some astonishing firmware updates.
I´ll leave you to decide which camera you wish to use.
Now to the introducing question. Can the X100 rival the X100T in terms of image quality. In my opinion it can. The X100 is still an amazing camera which is more than capable of producing some wonderful pictures.
See you next time
