First off I want to apologize to all of my German readers. Usually I write my blog articles in German but this one is a little different to the others. That’s why I decided to go back to English on this one.
I´ll see how it goes and might go back to that again. I kind of switch in my brain from German to English now and then, so bear with me!
When I started photography in a more intense way I talked to loads of guys, read books and internet blogs. Well, at that time there weren´t as many as there are today. This is now around about eight years ago. Near enough everybody told me to stick and stay with one kind of topic or theme if you may.
Right I thought that makes sense! Become good at one topic. And I thought about that day over day over day. What do I want to take pictures of, what do I want to become good at. The answer was simple
That is what I wanted to become good at. Was it landscape, street, architecture? I just did not know. And because I did not know I did not photograph.
And then one day I just grabbed my camera and went out and took pictures of all sorts of stuff. Every shot I took felt good and at the end of the session I took a look at every shot I took and every shot was crap. Sort of a waste of memory space! But you know what? I felt good about it. Yes there was no keeper at all. Did it bother me? Sure it did.
Did I get upset? No I did not.
And do you know why? Because I just went back to that day and remembered that every time I pressed that shutter button it felt good. It was a relief and I was able to relax and not think about anything else but photographing the next picture.
I did not care about any topic. I just took pictures of what I wanted. Not bothering about what other people said.
These days, around seven years later I still take pictures of what I want. Not caring about any kind of topic. If I feel like landscape photography I just go and grab my Fujifilm X-T1, a lens or two and go out and shoot landscape.
If I feel like street photography I do the same. What about night shots? The same! Grab my camera, take my tripod and go and shoot! Am I good at everything? No of course not but at the same time I am getting better at all kind of types of photography.
Yes, if you want to become an awesome, super stunning street photographer then stick with that. If you want to be a girl or guy that takes marvelous landscape shots then get yourself out there and just take those landscape shots.
I for myself want to relax when I take pictures. It is my hobby, my way of recharging the batteries after a long stressful week or month of work. And that is why I love to grab my Fujifilm X-T1 and the Fujifilm or Zeiss or even Samyang lenses and go and shoot with that gear. It´s a wonderful light gear that I can just grab and be sure to get some stunning image quality. Not a stunning image of course. Even today I come back home after an hours photo tour and just have crap on the card.
And I think it is safe to say that I am not all that bad anymore at what I do. I have attached a gallery of some of my latest photographs for you to take a look of the versatile style of mine.
So there you have it. Stick with one subject……… YEAH RIGHT the others can!
I do hope you enjoyed this short blog post of mine. Feel free to drop a line or two and tell me what you think about it.
Until then, have a great time
