Press release of the Zeiss Loxia 2.8/21 Distagon

Today is a good day for all Sony FE camera users. For all of us using the Sony A7, A7II, A7S, A7RII and A7SII. We are all missing an wide angle lens with nativ FE mount.

Well, today on October 12, 2015 Zeiss Germany, based in Oberkochen announced the Zeiss Loxia 2.8/21mm Distagon lens with nativ FE mount. The lens itself is an all new lens design. As you can see by the name the lens design is a Distagon. Not like the first two first Zeiss Loxia lenses, the Loxia 2/35 or the Loxia 2/50 which are based on older lens designes. Don´t get me wrong, I love those lenses. Especially the Loxia 2/35 which I reviewed quite some time ago. You can read my review on the two Loxia lenses following this LINK.

But that is not the topic of today.

The Zeiss Loxia 2.8/21mm is what´s up today.

Unfortunately I have not yet had the chance to test the lens on my Sony A7II yet. I do hope that I will get a copy of the lens soon.

So today I can share some lens pictures and the official Zeiss lens specs. As soon as I get my hands on the Zeiss Loxia 2.8/21 I will take it through it´s paces.

First some pictures of the lens itself. As you can see the new Loxia lens has the same 52mm filter thread as the two first Loxia lenses. This is a very good thing as we don´t need to buy new filters. Secondly take a look at the new lens hood. This is a new designed petal shaped lens hood. Zeiss has also kept the DeClick function for all the videographers. Well done Zeiss.

Notice the blue ring on the lens mount? It is a weather sealing. The Zeiss Loxia 2.8/21mm is weather sealed. And like the first Zeiss Loxia lenses this one also has the electronic contacts which enables the automatic zoom when turning the manual focus ring is turned and the lens also send the exif information to the camera.

So Zeiss, c´mon. Send me that evaluation copy so that I can do a real world review of this 21mm f/2.8 lens.
